Things Happy People Do Differently- #2
Cultivate Optimism
People who think optimistically see the world as a place packed with endless opportunities, especially in trying times.
Think of those times when it all felt as if it were going to crumble around you. Was there a way out? Was there a helping hand to grasp for? Probably. Whether you grabbed it or not was entirely up to you. You can either find a way to get yourself out or sit and wallow in the rubble.
The people that are already living this way are those 'glass half full' people. They are the ones that always tell you, "When one door closes, another one opens." Isn't that the truth?! Even if you have to struggle for a while, at least you have just found out that you can struggle for that long.
My aunts and uncles often told us stories about not having much growing up. My grandmother being a widow, raising six children alone was often difficult. She always found a way to make ends meet. She had a knack (that was passed down to me as well) for mixing together whatever she had in the pantry and serving it for dinner. My aunts and uncles would tell us that it took a long time for them to realize that they weren't having pancakes for dinner as a special treat, but because she had nothing more than those ingredients at her disposal. She was an optimist. She found a way in the hard times to make it work. She did everything she could, with what she had. To have grown up with that strong woman in my life has helped me through some very rough times.
